As time marches on we are always happy to have new players enjoying the sounds of their Thompson guitars built in our custom shop here in Sisters, Oregon. We meet these players in many different ways and some of those ways have been non-existent this past year and will be still for many months. That includes festivals and events like NAMM, Rocky Grass, Wintergrass, 4 Peaks Music Festival, Sisters Folk Festival, IBMA and Winfield. We love meeting musicians, people that love guitars and fellow instrument makers, really missing this in-person connection.
We want to thank some musicians that have had to wait many, many months for their guitar and we are happy to hear it is worth the wait. We truly appreciate the support and look forward to promoting their music in 2021!
Recently Lindsay Lou and Jordan Tice received their custom guitars. Lindsay Lou wanted the same body size like her long time guitar, but with a fun inlay that expresses her whimsical nature. Also the appeal of using sinker mahogany was something that enticed her to move forward on her Thompson 00-All Sinker Mahogany with a Mermaid inlay – a water themed guitar.

Jordan Tice was looking for a special guitar that highlights his fingerstyle playing so he chose a 000-12 Madagascar/Adirondack topped guitar. The Madagascar rosewood had the tonal qualities he gravitates towards for his recordings. The Norman Blake burst is so beautiful to look at and here is a short video he sent us recently, a quick sample of his talents!

Along with Jordan and Lindsay two brothers recently received D-MA’s. Will and Thomas Cassell are young players that found us at IBMA a few years back. Will was smitten and ordered one shortly after the show was over and then his brother called. We are happy they finally have them in their hands!
Thomas Cassell is a multi-instrumentalist with the band Circus No. 9 . He won the IBMA momentum instrumentalist award this year for his excellent mandolin playing! Will recently graduated from Eastern Tennessee State Bluegrass, Old-Time Country Music and has been recording and writing songs thru Covid. He recently released a CD called Calamity with many special guest players.
This new Thompson player, Ray Remington, is in the world of country music sharing his artistic songwriting abilities and style.
Here is an article about his love of ‘old’ country, being inspired by the poetry of Bob Dylan and what he wants to do to keep it fresh and new. He has named his Thompson guitar Maggie May and can’t wait to hear more from him in the future.
Ketch Secor recently received a Thompson guitar for him and the band to have on hand for future sessions. It is a slope shoulder Dreadnought with a sunburst and is being added to the collection of guitars they play. We look forward to sharing more videos from Old Crow Medicine Show in 2021!
