45 Style guitars have for decades represented some of the most elegant and beautiful ever made. At Thompson Guitars, we have carried on that tradition by crafting these two exquisite guitars – one an OM model and the other a 00-12 Fret model. Both have select shipwreck Brazilian Rosewood back and sides and Adirondack tops in the 1930’s era fashion.
Each has been inlaid with over 270” of abalone bordered by 10/10/20 BWB purfling carefully mitered at all joints. The abalone trim in the 45 style surrounds the top, back and sides as well as the tail graph and heel to body joint.
These are among some of the first 45 style guitars we have produced here and it takes a crew with many years of guitar building experience to carry on this excellent representation of tradition. Time tested and honored building methods used here at our shop include dovetail neck joints, hand graduated tops, and hand-carved bracing to produce that powerful vintage tone in beautiful aged Brazilian Rosewood sets.
They have also received many thin layers of the traditional method of finishing using Nitrocellulose lacquer. The guitars have been hand rubbed and sanded to the finest degree possible to create these beautiful matching vintage teardrop sunbursts. The quality of the finish work and color highlights the iridescent nature of the abalone.
