Our most popular guitar is the Dreadnought model. Originally inspired by the highly responsive 1930’s Martins which are considered by many to be the high water mark for dreadnought design, we utilize many of the design features which made them sound so great.
First we begin with a hand selected Adirondack spruce top that is carefully hand graduated for optimal sound. Forward shifted X bracing is then applied which is hand carved by our voicer Gareth Jenkins to refine each guitar. The result is a guitar that has volume, evenness of tone and a responsiveness that allows the picker to feel the vibration of each note that is played giving clarity and projection to satisfy any player.
Our standard models utilize high quality tone woods such as Honduran mahogany (as well as sinker and Cuban), a variety of rosewoods (East Indian/Madagascar) including our salvaged Brazilian rosewood from old beams and lost ship cargo.
As for appointments we offer the traditional 18 or 28 style appointments, but over the past 7 years we have greatly expanded the available options to allow a customer to create their dream instrument. You can choose between wood binding made from several different woods, different materials for the Thompson LOGO, abalone top trim (41, 42 or even the rare 45 style), different side purflings, custom inlays for the headstock, original and traditional torches, bound fingerboard/headstock, sunburst or vintage toner, abalone 3 ring rosette, custom rosette and a variety of tuner knobs on either nickel or gold Waverly tuners. We also in-house custom inlay designs by Simon Haycraft who can can create something to make your guitar a one-of-a-kind instrument. Your dream can become a reality : )
