00-12 Fret MA Soft Cutaway and Parlor (Size 2) 12 Fret BR
Preston’s eye was geared towards a classic taste in style as seen with the combination of appointments selected with each custom build. This sense of style will continue on as a big part of what we do here at Thompson guitars, providing our customers with many choices to build a guitar that they will treasure. Recently we finished several small bodied custom guitars and wanted to share them with you. We took these photos at Kimberly Teichrow’s Photography studio in Bend, Oregon.
The first photo session was of a OO 12 fret Honduran Mahogany short scale with an Adirnodack top, soft cutaway and a beautiful accent of Macassar Ebony used for the top trim, heel cap, tail wedge, headstock overlay and pyramid bridge. The ebony choice created a striking look against the select Adirondack top and Honduran Mahogany, along with the accent of the ebony turner knobs on the Brass Engraved Waverly tuners.
“I am proud to own the first Thompson 00 Cutaway. Preston and I collaborated to honor a classic 00-18 template with some custom features I desired. The instrument the shop crew created is nothing short of stunning in its appearance, build quality, playability and tone. This is a guitar that I will treasure for decades to come!” – Jay Wilson, Colorado
We also recently sent out this Size 2 Parlor BR with a Redwood top harvested from beams of Southern Oregon’s 1880 train tunnels combined with a beautiful Shipwreck Brazilian set that Preston had been saving for a special project. This parlor guitar is accented with a traditional abalone Vega torch on a Brazilian headstock overlay, a classic rope styled top trim and the rosette is customized with a ring of Brazilian rosewood for contrast.
“The tonal quality for a brand new guitar is amazing, it sounds very aged and is considerably sweet. The fact that Preston and I both have a love of history really completed the circle for me since the Brazilian came from a sunken ship and the redwood from the old tunnels. What is then is now. There is nothing about this critter I don’t love.” – Bill Cook, Astoria – Oregon
We want to thank all our custom clients out there for their support and having us make them guitars with special appointments to show off the skills of our crew and to highlight aspects of the guitar that catch the eye. We are a custom shop that can create any many looks with a combination of appointments highlighting the past and the present.
