Mitchell Tretheway started out in the guitar industry at the Fender custom shop in southern California right after he graduated from Roberto-Venn School of Lutherie. His next step was working at Eastman in production and quality control with all types of instruments where he stayed for over a decade. His time at Eastman also included several trips to China for production oversight. This experience was valuable and facilitated Mitch becoming part of the QC process for the Touchstone line when Bourgeois combined forces with Eastman. This new international production line kept Mitch busy with QC oversight, training and set-ups. In the back of his mind, he often thought about an even smaller shop to put to use his wide range of skills and an eye for details, frequently thinking of Thompson guitars and the mountains of Oregon. When he finally visited our shop in April 2025, we could see that his skill set was valuable for many reasons- having someone that knows the entire guitar making process and always on the watch for details. This combination is key to high-end boutique guitar building. At that time, we didn’t have a job opening but in October when Jason moved to Portland, Mitch was first on our list. Mitch told us that he enjoyed coming to Central Oregon as a kid and it was a place he always thought would be a good fit for his lifestyle. This small shop and working with our special team is his next chapter in guitar building. He is thrilled to be in Oregon and start to explore.
